Good luck and bad luck People around the world have different beliefs. Some of the most popular beliefs are connected to luck: good luck and bad luck. Some people think that if they find a four-leaf clover, it will bring good fortune. On the other hand, they don’t walk under a ladder because it might bring bad things. Some superstitious people put horseshoes on the walls, but are afraid if they break a mirror it will bring seven years of bad luck. Are these ideas true or just legend? Honestly, I’m not superstitious. But mysterious things happen. One day,I was travelling in a little town, and I saw a wishing well. I threw in a coin and made a wish. I was thinking about an old friend I had lost contact with. Incredibly, the next day I saw him in that little town. I couldn’t believe it. Another thing happened to a friend of mine. One day, by chance, Friday the 13th, she says that a black cat crossed her path, and it was the worst day of her life. All kinds of bad things happened to her. Was it date or the cat that was the cause of her bad luck? I don’t know. But luck does not always work. My mother always carried a cross on her neckand a rabbit’s foot in her purse. She said they brought good luck. But she had good days, bad days or just normal days, just like we all do. I have good times and bad times as well, but I don’t carry any magic charms. One day I was camping with some friends and we saw a falling star. We all made wishes, but none of them have come true. Another day, I was shopping and I bought some nice shoes. It was raining, and, when I got home, I opened the umbrella inside the house to dry it. Also, I put the shoes on the table for a while. People say these things bring bad luck? Were the next days any different? Yes, they were really nice and, ironically, I had very good luck that week. So, what can I say about superstitions? Are the believers wrong? Am I ignoring a mysterious energy that rules our lives? I just think that some people like to keep objects or charms that give them hope. But, in my opinion, we all have the same 50-50 chance. We all have good moments and bad moments, every day. It’s just part of being human.
